How do I know if my cover needs replacing?
After your Hot Tub, Spa or Pool cover has been in use for an extended period, it will begin to show symptoms of excessive wear. These will include:
- A cover that is heavier than usual to lift
- A cover with a roughened texture to the water facing surface
- A cover which collects water on top of it
Once your cover has lost it's ability to insulate your hot tub or pool effectively, your running costs will increase, as the heater constantly fights to keep the water up to temperature. If your energy bills are skyrocketing, an ineffective hot tub cover may well be the culprit. Even if you haven't reached this stage yet, if your cover is displaying any of the symptoms above, a replacement is wholeheartedly recommended.
Caring for your Cover
Your spa or pool cover has five main enemies - the sun, ozone, chlorine, dirt and rain. It is best to keep the cover clean using a mild soap and water solution, with no detergents, once every two weeks or so. When cleaning your cover, be sure to pay attention both sides, and all nooks and crannies. Once every 2-3 months, treat the cover with a good quality vinyl treatment such as our 303 Vinyl Protectant - this will keep the vinyl soft and supple, protect against fading and cracking from sunlight, and stop water damage. Do not use protectants that are silicone oil based, as they will increase the rate at which sunlight damages your cover.
